Breaking free from the constraints of a traditional performance venue, Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) has launched digital exhibition DECADE. A cross-disciplinary, collaborative, and interactive online art project, DECADE features ten five-minute historical films paired with 10 new soundtracks.
Each soundtrack consists of Chinese and Western instrumental scores composed and performed by 10 local Hong Kong musicians from a wide range of musical backgrounds. Each audio-visual piece signifies one decade of Hong Kong’s history shown through the eyes from filmmakers, curators and musicians. The timeline begins in 1898—when Thomas Edison took the first moving image of Hong Kong—to present day.
Furthermore, the site’s interactive component makes up a significant portion of this digital art project. The audience is also invited to share their own interpretation of Hong Kong’s history, by rearranging film clips and music accompaniments into their own unique creations.
