JUST moments from the Empire State Building is a cosy boutique hotel called The Gregory. Occupying the lively central Manhattan neighbourhood of Herald Square, you are just a short walk away from the bright lights of Times Square, Madison Square Garden and Penn Station – you honestly couldn’t wish for a better location.
Being among the bustle is a real treat, but at the end of a busy day, coming back to The Gregory offers some much-needed relaxation. The luxury boutique accomodation was restored and relaunched just a couple of years ago, and is a stylish and unique property inspired by fashion, given its historic surroundings of the Garment District, where dressmakers and textiles can be found in abundance. It’s no surprise, then, that Caravan Stylist Studio occupies the hotel’s mezzanine, where guests can be paired up with a curated selection of clothing, accessories and beauty supplies. Guests also have access to Haircraft Studio by Ray – a rather cool hair salon.
Though a modern property, with 123 rooms, the Gregory quietly hints at its gilded age origins, having been founded in the 1920s. The building’s beautiful public rooms have impressive double-height rooms feauring unusual stained glass windows. Brendan’s Bar & Grill, the friendly onsite restaurant that offers an excellent selection of American and Irish cuisine, also has a stunning marble fireplace, where you can sit and enjoy a post-dinner drink.
The ambiance of the lobby is cosy and welcoming, and it’s a pleasant space to linger. The addition of a drinks table, where guests can access water all day, is both a sensitive and much-appreciated gesture, as is the free tea and coffee every morning.
Thoughtful touches in the spacious bedrooms, such as Apotheke bath goodies and a writing desk, add to the ample space and city views, not to mention the luxe linens. Top marks also for braille room signs and the accomodation of service animals – this is a marker of a hotel that really has its thinking cap on.
Apotheke products are available in the rooms at the The Gregory
For a stay in the city, whether a weekend break or longer, The Gregory offers a luxurious though super-comfortable stay. And the location really can’t be beaten.
