MINIMALISM for maximalists. Tibi presented us a colour palette to die for: deep browns, steel greys and chalky blacks blended with lavenders, mints and citrus tones. The combination of the collection’s signature minimalist city-chic with striking colours and juxtaposing textures proves that city girls can truly have it all.
In true Tibi fashion, the show gave us clean and classic silhouettes with a twist. Tibi revamped our favourites: powersuits, croc boots and skirts and double-breasted coats, with the addition of a revival the dickie, monochromatic pastels and slides.
“Tough but happy” was one of their briefs for the AW19, which was flawlessly translated onto the runway. The vinyl lobster-claw belts, the chain handbag straps and the gold hardware effortlessly juxtaposed the respective butter-soft leather blazers, dainty white bags and croc boots, culminating in the perfect harmony of tough and happy.
Standout looks were the seafoam green dress with sequin sleeves, the complete lilac set and the glossy cyan leather matching set. Tibi showed us our new staple styling for the upcoming season: the double-upping of the same colour jumpers to create the knitwear equivalent of a power-couple.
In her pursuit to overhaul Tibi’s classic looks with experimentation, Smilovic bestrewed suit separates with athleisure drawstrings, added quilted duvet detailing to midiskirts and embellished dresses with striking sequins. Showing us our new must-haves, we now have a fervour for combat-Chelsea boots, half-skirts belted into contrasting dresses and completely seafoam looks.
The keywords for this AW19 Tibi collection are modernity and curiosity, two words that immediately came to mind when this collection came down the runway.
