China’s inaugural art photography fair launches this year

Photo enthusiasts worldwide, especially in China, can now rejoice. China’s very first international art fair dedicated to photography, Photo Shanghai, will run from September 5-7 at the iconic Shanghai Exhibition Centre. Organised by the World Photography Organisation and Montgomery, the exhibition was created in direct response to the increasing demand for accessible and collectable photography, notably in Asia Pacific.

With the Chinese art market rapidly expanding, galleries from all over the world will now have an opportunity to establish their presence and artworks in the Asia Pacific region. Fair director Alexander Montague-Sparey, who was previously Head of Christie’s London photography department, remarks, “Photography, art fairs and China are three of the most dynamic opportunities in the art world today. It is therefore an honour to direct the first edition of Photo Shanghai. I am thrilled to bring 19th Century, vintage, emerging and established contemporary photography of the highest calibre into the fastest-growing economic region in the world.” This international, highly curated art fair aims to set a new standard for photography in the region, and marks an important event in the development of art industry in China and Asia.
