Paris Fashion Week AW13: Hermès

One could say Christophe Lemaire graduated with a distinction for his autumn winter collection. Held in the fitting location of Lycée Henri IV, a finishing school for the very intelligent before gaining entry to one of the French Grand Écoles, Lemaire honed in on the roots of effortless French chic at Hermès.

Steering clear of his love of Asian influences, we saw pieces constructed from beautiful fabrics in non-threatening shades cut in flattering silhouettes – simple coats, sometimes draped over the shoulder for a nonchalant look, croc pencil skirts paired with a zipped navy blousons, masculine trouser suits – an inescapable trend this season – plaited knits and fur incorporated into luxe leather and cashmere pieces, all in grown-up and earthly tones.

It may have taken Lemaire five seasons to achieve pure, French chic, but the result is the same – he got there and he did it well. These are the pieces that a women can buy now and wear for the rest of her life. Clothing that stands the test of time in quality and above all, elegance.
