British Journal of Photography winners announced

COPENHAGEN-based collective Sara Galbiati, Peter Eriksen and Tobias Markussen have won the BJP International Photography Award with The Merge, an exploration of the possibility that mankind is living within a simulation.

The project was inspired by philosopher Nick Bostrom’s The Simulation Argument, a theory supported by academics and tech experts, including Elon Musk, that life as we know it is happening inside somebody else’s simulation. The winners investigated this topic by looking at our interactions with machines and how emotional, social and moral norms are being affected by our increasing dependence on them.

The prestigious award, now in its 14th year, recognises the best of contemporary photographic talent from around the world and was this year judged by esteemed members of the photography world, including Alona Pardo, Curator at the Barbican, and Mark Sealy MBE, director of Autograph.
