Christopher Kane to Begin New Chapter as Creative Director of Mulberry

IT’S OFFICIAL, Christopher Kane is heading to Mulberry to lead the revival of its Ready-to-Wear womenswear collections.

This marks an exciting step for the celebrated Scottish designer, who shuttered his eponymous label in 2023. Bringing a wealth of experience to the helm of the beloved British leather goods house, the Central Saint Martins alum will play a crucial role in evolving the company’s creative identity beyond its signature accessories.

“Christopher brings a rare combination of creativity, intellectual rigour and instinctive playfulness, alongside a deep respect for craft and materials”, says the company’s CEO, Andrea Baldo, “His vision resonates strongly with Mulberry’s heritage and the spirit of British creativity that defines the house.”

Alongside his former namesake label, founded with his sister Tammy in 2006, Kane has garnered recognition over the past decade for his More Joy lifestyle line, a collaborative diffusion line with Donatella Versace for Versus Versace and most recently, with his design residency at Self-Portrait in 2024, which reinterpreted his breakthrough graduation collection at CSM.

Crowned Women’s Designer of the Year at the 2013 British Fashion Awards, his vision has always been refreshingly uncompromising. Subversive yet surprising in their wearability, his colourful clothes (and rebellious streak) are sure to revolutionise Mulberry’s upcoming sartorial offering.

Commenting on the partnership, Christopher Kane says “It is an honour to join Mulberry, a brand with such a rich British heritage and a deep commitment to craft. I look forward to working closely with Andrea and the team to create a new chapter of ready-to-wear that celebrates the spirit of Mulberry.”

His debut collection will be unveiled at London Fashion Week this September, the brand’s first catwalk appearance since 2017. The designs will then hit stores the following January. Uniting two giants of British fashion, this has all the makings of a glorious new era for both.
