SITUATED in the heart of the beautiful Italian city, I arrive at the Grand Hotel et de Milan and am immediately overwhelmed by its sheer elegance. With preserved period furniture and exclusive furnishings, I feel as though I’ve been transported back to 1863 when it first opened.
The Duke and Dutchess of Windsor Deluxe Suite
The famous landmarks of the La Scala Opera House and the Duomo are right on the hotel’s doorstep, making this the perfect location for fulfilling all your touristy dreams. But if it’s relaxation and privacy you’re after, don’t fret, you’ll get that too in the warm and vintage surroundings of this historic town mansion that was once home to composer Giuseppe Verdi.
Gerry’s Bar
As I’m shown to my suite, I’m told that thanks to a recent refurbishment by Dimore Studio, the rooms now feature an elevated contemporary vibe that blends in perfectly with the distinguished period decor. Each room shares a uniqueness, much like your own home, to showcase that every one has its own personality.
Grand Hotel et de Milan Exterior
I take a browse around the suite and I’m additionally bowled over by the spacious Italian marble bathroom with en-suite phone, and chic Etro products to use alongside.
Before I can relax, I’m eager to check out the bars and restaurants below, such as the Don Carlos where you can enjoy traditional Milanese cuisine under the light of an antique silver chandelier, and the Caruso that overlooks the Piazzetta Croce Rossa.
Lucio Dalla Deluxe Suite
Later I take my place at the Don Carlos, surrounded by paintings, sketches and scene-paintings from the La Scala Theatre Museum, and begin to wonder how I will ever find joy in food elsewhere – everything tastes incredibly fresh and made with a passion. That’s just another reason why it is hard to ever want to leave this hotel.
