Glass is wowed by The Tasman – Hobart’s latest luxury hotel

THE Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, has recently opened in Hobart’s Parliament Square development, providing another reason to explore this charming city in Tasmania, Australia’s only island state.

Deco Lounge at The Tasman

This award-winning hotel is an architectural gem that perfectly blends the historical legacy of the site, comprising of an 1840s heritage building, an art deco wing and a contemporary glass-ensconced pavilion building.

These three structures were ingeniously designed by notable Australian architects FJMT, with the interiors specified by Joseph Pang Design, using indigenous woods, locally woven fabrics, and a stunning collection of artisan pieces from Tasmania and the mainland. Many of The Tasman’s 152 luxuriously appointed and spacious rooms and suites offer panoramic views of Hobart’s spectacular harbour.

Parlour at The Tasman

Moments from Salamanca Market with its artisan shops and restaurants, the Tasman is in walking distance to Battery Point, a quaint neighbourhood perched on a hill filled with antique and curio shops that was the birthplace of Hollywood screen idol, Errol Flynn.

Hobart itself is home to the most talked-about art museum on the continent, the Museum of Old and New Art – MONA – accessible via a short ferry ride from the waterfront docks.

Mary Mary Bar at The Tasman

The Tasman has been designed to encourage both locals and island visitors to enjoy what it has to offer, not least the Peppina, an all-day Italian restaurant.

Its grand open kitchen, under the guidance of culinary director, Tasmanian-native Massimo Mele, serves exceptional quality comfort food that draws on his Italian heritage, with produce sourced from a network of producers and suppliers on the island.

It is no wonder that The Tasman is expected to singlehandedly increase tourism across the Bass Strait to Australia’s smallest state.
