Glass reviews the JW Marriott, Hong Kong

SINCE 1989, the JW Marriott Hong Kong has set the bar for luxury hospitality as Marriott’s first-ever Asian flagship hotel. Of course, there have been significant changes over the three decades following its opening, what with necessary remodeling, stylistic touch-ups, and modern expansions. But with the passing of time, the high standards of the hotel have flourished. If anything, each year goes to show the JW Marriott Hong Kong is aging like a fine wine.

The first thing to note about the JW Marriott HK is the way in which the hotel goes above and beyond to exceed expectations. One way to experience this is through the gorgeous views of the surrounding city the hotel offers. Guests not only have access to picturesque sights of glittery Victoria Harbour but also of Hong Kong’s sprawling green mountains, as well as the islands colourful urban landscape, which lights up during the night.

Soak it all in with your first steps into the hotel lobby through awe-inspiring floor-to-ceiling windows, which quite literally invite the beauty of the outdoors inside. AN urban jungle awaits you in Hong Kong, and the JW Marriott hotel offers the perfect celebration of this.

Fantastic dining options are an essential part of any five-star experience. And when it comes to the JW Marriot, guests are decidedly spoilt for choice. Bar Q88 provides a laid-back pub atmosphere equipped with a live band and an extensive collection of whiskey, champagne, and iconic cocktails.

Meanwhile, a meal at Fish Bar offers guests indulgent freshly caught seafood within close proximity to the lively pool lounge – an absolute must to visit during the heavy humidity months – with plenty of refreshing cocktails. Other choices include JW Café, Flint, The Lounge and Man Ho, which is currently being given a complete visual makeover. Not to be forgotten is Dolce 88, perfect for any visitor with a sweet tooth. Take care to order the Smoked Vanilla Mousse Pastry and the Dolce 88 Espresso Cake (a few of the many signature dishes).

All 608 hotel rooms were given an interior design touch up back in 2018, resulting in a splash of turquoise blue and a touch of warm creams and browns, offering a simultaneous warmth and coolness to every angle of each room. The renovation also welcomed various enhancements including heavenly seven-layered mattresses and two stunning new suites: the Hong Kong Suite and the Bauhinia Suite, both of which are located between the floors 33 and 34. Each provides unobstructed views of the city, spacious walk-in closets, private dining and living rooms, and of course deluxe bathrooms.

But the ultimate perk of a stay at the JW Marriott HK has got to be its prime location within the Admiralty district. On the border of both Wan Chai and Central, the hotel is in the sweet spot for tourists and locals alike to explore sophisticated boutiques, diverse dining areas and local businesses on Hong Kong Island.

Plus, if you take the elevator down from the ground floor you are lead to the Queensway Plaza, a shopping centre hosting an abundance of luxury and high end delights in fashion, design, art, and food. And if visitors are drawn towards Hong Kong’s world-renowned nightlife, the popular neighbourhood of Lang Kwai Fong is less than a ten-minute drive away.
