Glass stays at Hotel AMANO – the London hotel with so much to savour

UPON arrival at the boutique Hotel AMANO Covent Garden, a wave of luxury envelopes me as soon as I step through the door – leading German hotelier The AMANO Group takes lifestyle to a whole new level.

As I tour the building, I’m led to my Roomy suite with its beautiful garden view, super-king-sized bed, top-of-the-range Nespresso coffee machine and walk-in shower.

Each of the rooms holds a tablet with phone access, making reception and room services contact tech-savvy and more accessible than ever.

Once I’ve taken in such a treat for the eyes, I kick back and relax in front of the flatscreen TV featuring a range of entertainment services and incredible HD quality. I’m quickly understanding how perfect this hotel is for an escape from the busy streets of the West End without losing London’s essential character.

After spending an hour or so enjoying my own company, I remember the atmospheric rooftop bar and vibrant fine dining restaurant, Penelope’s, that Hotel AMANO has to offer, and I begin making my way for dinner.

Penelope’s, hosted by veteran executive chef Fez Ozalglan, combines the cuisine of Israel and Spain with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influences, making its menu both original and unique.

As I scour the menu, I’m told that light starters such as the Israeli Mezze, Jamón Ibérico and Gambas Locas are among the star dishes, but I am served the recommended Tiger Prawns with a Smoked Butter Bisque. It is divine.

For the mains, I’m drawn to the Shed Hayam couscous served with monkfish tempura and wakame seaweed from the Pacific. Suddenly I feel like the ocean has been brought to my table and I can’t help but dive in.

Wondering how I’m going to take in anymore, I spot the Baklava Cheesecake being served across the room and, before I realise it, I’m ordering a portion for myself. The taste sensation of all the dishes I’ve eaten isn’t like anything I’ve had before.

To round up the night, I head to the elegant rooftop bar for a great selection of classic cocktails sipped with a wondrous skyline view.
