Glass stays at The Grove and discovers countryside luxury a stone’s throw from London

AS WE wind up the country path in the midst of the 300 acres, we approach The Grove and it is clear upon arrival that this is a stately 5-star residence with pedicured lawns and manicured tees that would happily fit into an episode of the television drama series, Succession. We are only 20 miles away from Heathrow Airport and a 30-minute train ride to central London.

Golf Course

We’re shown to our suite, one of the 25 that have been given a full remodel by the talented team at Martin Hulbert Design.

Appropriately opulent – think modern country fabrics and just a little pomp. This spacious suite is more than a bed for the night (albeit what a bed!) and with large sash windows overlooking the grounds, plenty of space to relax and a marbled bathroom, you might not be inclined to venture beyond your quarters.

The team here certainly meet their goal of creating “a place where you can escape to and feel unchallenged by the world outside.”

Sequoia Spa

We head down to the tranquil Sequoia spa and after 20 lengths in the low-lit zen indoor pool I am then spoilt with a top to toe hot and cold stone massage. Hot stones soothe my knots and the cold ones invigorate my skin.

Exterior of The Grove Mansion

After an evening stroll within the grounds to refresh our lungs, accompanied by fresh countryside air, we enjoy a casual and hearty evening meal at The Stables.

I have asparagus to start, accompanied with just enough light creamy sauce, followed by stone bass for main, which was grilled to perfection. The French wine selection pairs marvellously.

Junior Suite

Back in our suite, we explore the minibar (included in the nightly rate) and celebrate our night of tranquillity with some chilled Bollinger and dark chocolate almonds.
