DISMEMBERED, holographic body parts float around the show space for Maison Margiela’s AW19 Haute Couture collection, a fitting piece of artistry for the avant-garde fashion house.
Founded in Paris in 1988, the iconoclastic fashion house, now under Creative Director John Galliano, has long been a revitalising force in the fashion world, refusing to conform to the ordinary. The new collection, entitled In Memory Of is a masterclass in high fashion – but makes it gothic. Black dresses with full skirts are followed by more black, this time in an ensemble with spiked shoulders. Interspersed with red and the occasional pink or blue, this collection is something straight out of Cruella Deville’s wardrobe.
Haute couture with an edge, Maison Margiela did what they do best in their AW19 runway show.
