Hip-hop duo Black Star feature in the new Amiri AW23 campaign

STARRING the infamous Brooklyn-born music duo Black Star, Amiri releases its new autumn-winter 2023 Icon campaign. Known for their trail-blazing influence on rap music, the duo – made up of Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli – perfectly encapsulates the artistic design approach of the brand.

Their most notable work,  Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star, is deemed as one of the most influential hip-hop albums to have emerged during the 90s conscious rap uprising.

Photographed by Karim Sadli, the pair poses confidently wearing an assortment of garments from the AW23 collection. Mike Amiri, creative director of Amiri, is known for frequently drawing inspiration and ideas from musical movements and trends.

With innovation and transformation being imperative to Black Star’s musical pursuit, similar qualities are exhibited within the campaign.

Subverting classic silhouettes and appealing to contemporary design codes, the latest seasonal offering demonstrates the refinement and savoir-faire of the LA-based brand.

Soft vegan leather coats meet mohair cardigans, structural dress shirts and perfectly pleated trousers – a flawless display of elegant casual-wear inspired by 50s and 90s Americana.

Signature accessories – such as the driver hat and the newsboy cap – feature in tandem with luxurious garments, further accentuating the sophistic aesthetic of the campaign.

Intertwining tradition with experimentation, the Icon campaign reiterates the pioneering, progressive attitude of Amiri’s practice.
