THE GRANDEUR of the Durbar Court on King Charles Street, Mayfair, was a fitting setting for Victoria Beckham’s SS20 ready-to-wear collection for LFW, and the launch of her beauty line.
Tall, elegant Doric columns mirrored the models who strode, long-legged, down the catwalk. The collection featured neutral tones and colours, tailored with suggestions of femininity, a style that Beckham does well. One striking look was composed of a gingham suit layered over a clay shirt and with a white coat over the top, accessorised with tortoiseshell sunglasses.
There was a vibrant display of orchid purples and pink, sherbet lemon and electric blue. One inspired colour combination matched bright green with brown (who knew?) and Victoria Beckham herself wore a purple shirt with burgundy trousers for her after party. Scarlet sandals and azure heeled pumps dressed the models’ feet, enlivening beige, black and white groupings.
Beckham also used the show to debut her environmentally friendly beauty line on the models’ faces, which were kept natural with subtle definition around the eyes.
Front row guests included her husband David and children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, as well as esteemed actress Helen Mirren, writer Sinéad Burke, Anna Wintour and Edward Enninful. Harper went backstage with her mom, posing for photos with the models.
The show defied those who look to the past performance of the brand to discredit Beckham’s work, and proved that she is a force to be reckoned with in the fashion world.
