UNISEX fashion collective Art School continued to focus on redefining the gendered body in their show at Topman and Fashion East’s MAN SS19 , mirroring the concept of gender fluidity through the supple satins and outsized tailoring utilised in the collection.
Titled High Concept Character, the collection was a celebration of the idiosyncrasies and individuality at the core of gender identity and personal style. The show blurred the lines between masculine and feminine design in an exploration of the queer body, styling suit jackets and boxer shorts with stilettos.
In a fusion between minimalist androgyny and all the extravagance of drag styling, ripped t-shirts and underwear were sent down the runway along with sequin dresses, tinsel wigs and glittering corsets in black, acid green and silver.
A collaboration between the creative partnership of Eden Loweth and Tom Barratt, shifting definitions of gender were central to this collection, which brought together art and fashion to make a statement about contemporary queerness.
