Louis Vuitton Celebrates 130 Years of its Monogram

IN THE lexicon of fashion’s great icons, few symbols resonate with the authority and romance of the Louis Vuitton Monogram.

Conceived in 1896 by Georges Vuitton as a tribute to his father Louis, the House’s founder, the canvas was never meant to be mere decoration. It was a statement of authorship, ingenuity, and endurance: a motif that would ultimately transcend time, trend, and place.

Now, 130 years on, Louis Vuitton celebrates the Monogram not as history sealed in amber, but as a living emblem in perpetual motion.

Launching at the very start of 2026, the anniversary year opens with an homage to the House’s most storied Monogram bags: the Speedy, Keepall, Noé, Alma, and Neverfull. These designs are reintroduced as heritage pieces, crafted to be worn, loved, and passed down through generations. Each carries a tagline that underscores the campaign’s core values of transmission and durability, reflecting the meticulous savoir-faire embedded into every stitch.

From its origins, the Monogram was radical. Georges Vuitton fused interlaced LV initials with floral motifs inspired by Neo-Gothic ornamentation and Japonism, registering a patent to protect the House’s authenticity.

Over the decades, it has become a creative through-line, shaped by artistic directors such as Marc Jacobs, Nicolas Ghesquière, Pharrell Williams, and the late Virgil Abloh, and reimagined by contemporary artists like Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama.

The celebration continues with new anniversary collections: Monogram Origine in pastel linen-cotton jacquard, VVN in luminous natural leather, and the playful trompe-l’oeil Time Trunk Collection. Together, they reaffirm the Monogram’s enduring power.
