MFW AW14: MaxMara

Milan Fashion Week continues in full swing with the Max Mara AW14 show.  This season’s collection is all about the tweeds, plaids,  herringbone and Prince of Wales check in a brown Autumnal palette.  Shades of lime green most associated with the 1970s were also a key colour in this collection’s palette, and traces of black PVC permeated the collection.

The over 60-year-old Italian fashion house showcased many pieces of outerwear in slightly oversized silhoettes that were far from the all too common puffer jacket type style industry is currently saturated with. The luxury design atelier brought it back to smart looking cuts including peacoats and blazers in longer lengths.

Accessories such as golden footwear and crocodile printed handbags added texture and complemented the grandeur fabrics of wardrobe and provided excellent and stylish contrast.  The overall feel of the collection was stylish comfort in anything but basic black.  Although the primary focus was on outerwear, this collection has other gems amoungst it including shapely silhoettes for skirts and full body piece sweaters/vest jackets.

Known for its impeccable style, The House of MaxMara was established in 1951 by Reggio Emilia and currently has over 2000 stored spread over 90 countries.  Different to other brands, MaxMara has only one celebrity spokesperson, namely Jennifer Garner.  The catwalk show was well attended, with celebrity Rose Byrne sitting in the front row.
