Fashion house DSQUARED2 has just unveiled its autumn-winter 2024 runway collection during Milan Fashion Week.
The show saw sets of twins, each modelling either a day look or its complementary evening look, with each outfit embodying the distinct style codes characteristic of Dsquared2.
The transformative nature of the collection is created through manipulations of various fabrics, treatments and silhouettes, assembling either a raw or refined final look.
The theme of rawness materialises through rugged outfits and adaptations such as jeans featuring splatters of mud and snow, patched and weather-beaten garments and shirts fastened to the waist.
Sweatshirts are flawed with purposeful rips and chain embellishments, while distressed leather and furred outerwear chaperone fair isle knits. The collection demonstrates silhouettes of both oversized and lazy shapes, as well as cropped and figure-skimming.
Refinement is seen in evening-wear, where the art of tailoring is prominent. Silhouettes of sharp and tapered collars finish sophisticated looks, while metal jewellery featuring colourful stones accessorises. The fabrics used are uber-luxurious, with materials of glossy pony, maxi sequins, shiny python-print leather and velvet.
Each garment seems to keep its original structure while still demonstrating transformation. A men’s pea coat is reworked into a double-breasted tailored tux, while a cropped puffer parka alters into a faux-pony anorak.
Menswear sees shorts with holes, cotton tanks, trapper hats, vintage shearlings and patched and ragged denim by day, while studded chiffon shirts and low-waisted flared pants in velvet or glossy printed python leather dominate evening wear. Silver sequin bomber jackets with matching trousers and lurex knits paired with D2 gold hardware clutches also grace the evening looks.
As for the women’s evening looks, plunging necklines and a lot of skin dominate, conveying the essence of sexiness inherent to the collection. Layered silhouettes of jersey, knit and denim are substituted for maxi skirts, feathered mini dresses and silk jersey gowns, which frame cut-out segments and reveal wrapped or gathered textures.
As for bags and shoes, they too demonstrate the core themes of raw and refined. Tattered suede duffel bags and jacquard knit Gothic Belt Bags contradict the D2 clutches shown in satin and python-printed leather.
The autumn-winter 2024 shoe collection showcases styles such as sneakers, Sasquatch and slighted-heeled boots for men while women are seen styled in delicate high-heeled ankle strap pumps.
