PFW SS21: Dries Van Noten

THE Dries Van Noten SS21 collection is presented as a film and series of runway images by photographer Viviane Sassen. The film features projections of Len Lye Movies (a New Zealand experimental film artist), creating a vibrant and fast-moving setting for the collection. A model in a metallic silver coat dances in the sea of flashing images, the shadow emphasising the movement of the fabric.

Bright, light-weight fabrics still stand out against the colourful moving images. The projections illuminate the fabric on a colourful, layered gown created from pleated layers of pink and green styled with bright make up. The collection places fabric choice over traditional markers of gender, using the same materials for both women’s and menswear.

Featuring traditional tailored jackets and light-weight fabric recalling swathes of watercolour, the focus for the collection is energy, colour, movement. The series of images is shot both outside in a coastal landscape and inside with projections and colourful lighting.

The beautiful series of images tells the story of the collection in a refreshing, vibrant and colourful new way.
