The National Portrait Gallery presents Murillo: The Self Portraits

THE National Portrait Gallery is exhibiting the work of celebrated Spanish Golden Age artist Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, amongst the exhibition are the only two existing self portraits which will be shown together for the first time since they were documented in the 1709 inventory of his son Gaspar’s art collection. Painted 15-20 years apart, they depict Murillo at two distinctively different stages of his life, the portraits will be shown amongst a cluster of other works by Murillo. Murillo: The Self Portraits falls on the 400th year of his birth, a tribute to the artist’s prolific oeuvre.
