Vivienne Westwood brings brutalism to elegance in AW25 campaign

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD has just released their autumn-winter 25 campaign, photographed by Juergen Teller, featuring big names in the fashion industry such as Kirsten McMenamy and Andreas Kronthaler, the brand’s creative director who additionally happens to be the late Westwood’s husband.

Alongside Kronthaler and McMenamy, the other models in front of the camera were Harry Browse, Hamaam Pelewura, Inès Michelotto and Tiana Mohammed.

The cast is depicted in the urban landscapes of Margate alongside bedroom spaces and cave-like backdrops, which boldly juxtapose the elegant, extravagant pieces from the collection.

Visual outputs such as McMenamy posed on a bike against brutalist-style buildings while wearing a renaissance-like dress and bold knee-high boots merge the aesthetic styles of savoir-faire and punk.

Additionally, the campaign sees various accessories reimagined into new silhouettes, fashioning the body in skirts and tops while dandy-esque suits are refined into contemporary styles.

“I went to Margate for the first time in the late 90s, it seemed to me the most quintessential English seaside place therefore I always wanted to do a campaign shoot there. Of course, it has changed a lot since then. It’s a place I feel comfortable and welcome, I find the people extremely sweet and friendly. It is very picturesque and there is a certain light there which must have to do with the seaside air. It’s perfect for photographs. We shot in three locations, the Margate caves, the car park of Dreamland and the Nayland Rock hotel.” —Andreas Kronthaler, Creative Director, Vivienne Westwood
