MFW SS21: EMPORIO ARMANI

THE Emporio Armani SS21 collection is showcased in the form of a film entitled Building Dialogues. Opening with five figures twisting and turning on concrete floor, this sequence immediately establishes one of the key elements of the collection: movement. Dance, expression through movement and fluidity are at the forefront of the film – the cast features dancers Les Twins and ballet dancer Germain Louvet, singer Nahaze and actress Najwa Nimri.

They move through the space, illustrating that this collection is not restrictive in any way – a grey shirt is knotted at the neck and left open, flowing outwards. The choreography is interspersed with close up shots of tailored jackets and cropped blousons.

In this new collection, “the sense of urban dynamism dissolves into an indescribable, contemporary lightness; into an idea of ethereal, unpredictable elegance” (Emporio Armani). Shades of grey and white echo the concrete setting of the film, while neutral tones of beige add to the idea of the fabric being barely-there.

One look comprises of a sheer white top and belted trousers with the slightest hint of illuminated sparkle sewn into the fabric, visible as it catches the Italian sunlight. The collection is a refreshing, modern take on menswear and womenswear, which places fluidity and weightlessness above all else.
