Zac Posen did exactly what we wanted him to do at NYFW this season, and we can’t thank him enough for it. Posen knows that intelligent dressing is the sexiest dressing there is and displayed this with aplomb with quite the divine little collection of classic pieces. Dressing with intelligence, for the pioneering artisan of allure at least, means what it should mean; practical practically gorgeous clothing that doesn’t have a sartorial axe to grind, avoids statement clichés and doesn’t let itself get too jaded.
Boasting the kind of elegant ensembles that make one smile from ear to ear, Posen adhered to a strict colour scheme of intense but well balanced red, black and white hues, varying the saturated volume of each tone as the show ranged from the more traditional pieces at the beginning to the more operatic as the show sparkly bridal-esque finale.
The general forms did one of two things for the body, streamlined what god was nice enough to give one or amplified the natural flow of the silhouette with classic ballooned skirts, grouped in all of the appropriate nooks and crannies and framing assets immaculately.
Bejewelled jumpsuits, dresses appliqued with hypnotising circular motifs and the pronounced boning on certain waist-hugging numbers broke the mould more than the simplistic gowns, lavished in glossy satiny veneers, and added a more enticing touch to an already engrossing series of pieces. To reiterate just once again, bravo to Mr Zac Posen, a designer who deserves all of the lauded longevity he is getting.
