Reinventing the classic art student aesthetic, Gucci presented their latest collection for AW15. The show was Alessandro Michele’s time to shine, as previous creative director, Frida Giannini was controversially removed from the brand last year. Contrasting vibrant patterns and texture, Gucci mixed ruffled satin shirts with mesh tops, adding a revealing twist. The consistent layering was juxtaposed against see-through attire, balancing a conservative, yet exposing finish. The combination of multi fabrics, made for a “just-thrown-on” look, with oversized fur coats paired with sheer pleated material. The use of opposing accessories added to the eccentric style, creating a busy display.
Styles were loose yet feminine, with ruffles and frills romanticising the collection. The use of natural imagery, varying from print to appliqué added to the hippie finish. Lace and floral design allowed for a delicate collection, whereas bulkier garments added a strong base. In homage to Parisian style, the collection incorporated berets and tailored suits over turtle neck jumpers, whilst models supported pussybow collars.
With an overall theme of laid back glamour, Gucci has gathered inspiration through the natural world and French style. The varied collection of florals mixed with daring statement pieces, make AW15 a revival of the hippies.
