PFW SS16: Issey Miyake

For all those who claim to be fans of colour blocking or optical illusion-inspiring fashion, Issey Miyake’s latest collection will be at the top of their Christmas list. There was not a single colourless piece that graced the runway, all inspiring a second glance.

The first section of the collection was almost completely about colour blocking and fringing detail. Every garment had sections rather than a blend of hues. On top of many of these tones was then a thick bit of fringe laid over in almost stripe patterns for most of the collection. It was a curious set up not for the fainthearted.

As the collection went on the hemlines become more skewed, the fringing all but disappeared and the colour blocking turned into lines that formed new patterns. Many of the final garments resembled a spinning optical illusion that pops up on your computer screen on rare occasions. It gave a new effect to the pieces.

The models had their faces primed in colour to suit the outfits they each wore, with hair that can only be described as tornado swept. It was fun and added a bit of context to the clothing. It was a bright collection designed for anyone looking to hypnotise crowds.
