HEAVILY influenced by the 1980s, Miu Miu showed its AW18 collection on the final day of PFW. As appropriate for the era, the models’ hair was voluminous, styled in a beehive mullet combination with some wearing oval-shaped sunglasses.
Polka dots and checked patterns featured heavily throughout. Other 1980s-inspired patterns included houndstooth and compact florals that varied in scale. The colour palette mainly consisted of pastels and neons that contrasted the more muted tans, blacks and greys.
Accessories included collar-shaped and regular scarves with fringing and neckerchiefs, as well as chunky chain jewellery that matched oversized belt buckles. A couple of the models wore two belts, while the majority of them clutched mini rectangular shaped handbags.
Patent leather trench coats with matching equally glossy boots were thrown over tighter pieces. Being mindful of the cold weather in winter, thick socks were worn with stilettos, platforms and flats. Miuccia Prada gave a nod to double denim, featuring acid wash jeans accompanied with a matching jacket.
Keeping with tradition, the models’ legs were shown off in tight-fitting dresses and skirts or under trench coats. The few trousers included were high wasted and elongated the legs. Unlike the brand’s AW17 collection, this collection lacked fabric manipulation and intricate embellishments, however this didn’t affect how it was received.
