Burberry looks to nature for its SS21 show

BURBERRY is the latest brand to reveal how it will showcase its SS21 collection this autumn in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, confirming that a physical show will go on – but not as we know it.

Ever since coronavirus swept the globe, the future of fashion has been in troubled waters. In recent months, fashion houses and labels have been faced with adversity, with many of them having to cancel their menswear shows earlier this month. Despite the havoc it has wreaked, the coronavirus crisis is revolutionising the fashion industry. In order for houses and labels to survive, they must adapt to new forms of expression – especially when it comes to showcasing their collections.

Burberry has put on a brave face, announcing that it will stage a live physical presentation for its SS21 collection on  September 17, which is open for all to experience digitally. Set in the British outdoors, the British fashion brand’s collection will draw on its foundations – an opportunity to reconnect with nature and perhaps, one another.

Burberry in Nature

“As humans, we have always had a deep affinity to nature. We have had to respect and rely upon its power for our very existence, whilst marvelling and revelling in its extraordinary beauty,” says Riccardo Tisci, Burberry‘s creative director. “Especially recently, we have all yearned to reconnect again and for this show, I wanted to celebrate these feelings by bringing our community together in a creative experience that takes place within the beautiful, natural landscape of Britain.”

Burberry has also confirmed that its SS21 show will be certified carbon neutral, ensuring measures are taken to reduce the presentation’s environmental impact and any remaining emissions will be offset through Burberry’s Regeneration Fund.

It seems, then, that the coronavirus crisis is forcing fashion to a sustainable future.

Burberry’s Back to Nature show will take place on September 17, 2020.
