Charles & Keith launches capsule with Paris-based brand both

JUST IN time for the weather changing and the season shifting into a darker mood, Charles & Keith has launched a collaboration with Paris-based independent brand both. Known for their streamlined designs that champion the use of natural rubber through their unique technique, this exclusive capsule fuses the urban streetwear aesthetic with a touch of punk across two styles of shoes and bags.

Taking inspiration from Kintsugi, the traditional Japanese method of repairing broken pottery using lacquer mixed with either powdered gold or silver, this effect was used across the products on offer. Beyond the utilisation of this technique, the idea of binding pieces back together plays into the notion of embracing our imperfections – something both brands hope to remind all those who wear the accessories of.

Reimagining the classic Chelsea boot and chunky loafer silhouette, both highly popular styles of Charles & Keith, have a chunky curved rubber sole added to them injecting some grunge to the usually modest shoes. The addition of rubber platforms balance the on-and-off duty look of the shoes, while the seams of the footwear are broken and underlaid in gold or silver – just like the technique – and are given a hammered metal toe-cap to push the grunge taste more.

To match your feet, the collaboration also returns to the 90s with their bags – the baguette shoulder bag is given a chunky strap, while the bucket bag has a magnetic clasp and large buckle (matching the loafers). Allowing the wearer to remove or add charms and chains to reflect their own personal taste, the bags can evolve like your style.

Speaking on the collection, both explained “We are always looking to capture the culture, mood and people of a certain period, and this collection is an ode to the transgressive spirit of punk, reflected in the youthful zeal of the new generation, who have challenged and redefined the boundaries of so many norms”.
