In this Feminist Art episode, writer and art historian Katy Hessel – a London-based curator, writer and art historian – speaks freely with Eva Jospin, a French artist whose colossal, technically masterful embroidery lined the walls of the show space at the Musée Rodin for Dior’s A/W 2022 haute couture collection.

In this discussion, Jospin recalls vividly her story how she discovered the Sala dei Ricami at the Palazzo Colonna, a magnificent space entirely upholstered in Indian-inspired embroideries.

Intersecting her references with the palette of post-Impressionist painter Edouard Vuillard, Jospin conures images of misty greens and sandy gold’s, hand embroidered by the Chanakya ateliers and the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai, India.

Jospin opens up about naming her towering installation Chambre de Soie (Silk Room) in an ode to Virginia Woolf’s pivotal feminist piece, A Room of One’s Own, along with the experience of adopting a new form of artistic expression.
