AFTER a blinding runway show at PFW, Givenchy have launched their SS19 campaign video and once again Clare Waight Keller doesn’t disappoint as she pursues to leave her mark by adding fuel to the much needed gender conversation.
Givenchy released their SS19 Campaign video titled, I Am Your Mirror, exploring the blurring of gender-characteristics. This conversation has been going on for quite some time in the fashion world, yet it seems to be gaining major ground now Clare Waight Keller is one of the main advocates. Offering a glimpse behind the curtains – quite literally – of their PFW SS19 show, the film questions the distinction of womenswear, menswear by blending and bending gender lines.
Givenchy SS19, I Am A Mirror
The SS19 collection is centred around the symbolic yet abstract concept of mirrors as womenswear mirrors that of menswear and vice-versa. This duality can be seen in the floral formations executed in iridescent embroideries, a stereotypical identification of femininity. Additionally, Givenchy reflects on past icons such as journalist Annemarie Schwarzenbach, whose androgynous yet sexy style served as inspiration behind the sharp-cut lines and short-haired models.
