Glass discovers unrivalled glamour at Anouska Hempel’s The Franklin, London

AFTER a leisurely day in Knightsbridge, I check in to The Franklin, a 35-room boutique hotel at Egerton Gardens. Situated mere moments from Harrods and the V&A museum, The Franklin is spread across four Victorian redbrick townhouses, with interiors designed by actress-turned-hotelier, Anouska Hempel.

Upon entering, I am greeted with a dark, romantic glamour: grey velvet dining chairs and barstools, circular marble tables, pointed foliage and an 18th-century replica Venetian marble mirror. The staff, who were warm and faultlessly attentive, lead me to my room for the night: The Presidential Suite.

Spanning 667 sq ft, this suite is exquisitely furnished with marbled surfaces, lacquered mirrors and ultra-luxe furniture. Beautifully lit with views over lush parkland, the room includes a sweeping private lounge, walk-in closet and a spacious bathroom with a double washbasin and marble shower.

After an evening of unwinding in a Great Gatsby-style bar with a glass of bubbles, I relocate to the restaurant to savour the culinary offerings by Michelin-starred Chef Alfredo Russo. With seating for 30 diners, the Franklin Restaurant is an intimate space, complete with views of the gardens and grey velvet decor – it’s abundantly clear why gourmets across the globe consider The Franklin Restaurant to be an essential destination. The following morning, I conclude my stay with a delicious continental breakfast – including tender salmon and meltin- your-mouth pastries.

For those who are just as entranced by the gilded interiors as I am, you’re in luck. Guests of The Franklin now have the opportunity to bring a piece of Hempel style home with them with the launch of Hempel House & Hotels’ new interiors range.

With Yard Stick lamps, bedside tables and iron planters, I couldn’t think of a better way to treasure a stay at this unforgettable hotel. Prices for the Presidential Suite at The Franklin.
