Glass reviews Orveda – vegan skincare at its best

GIVEN the proliferation of cruelty-free beauty lines, there’s no reason for vegan brands to not be at the top of everyone’s Christmas shopping list this year. Whatsmore, there’s definitely no need to hold back on the glamour front.

Orveda is a pioneering, vegan-friendly line that relies on the richest botanical ingredients and cutting-edge biotechnologies to create products that really work.

Created by the former CEO of L’Oréal and Lancôme, Sue Nabi, the statistics are pretty impressive: more than 98% of the active ingredients included in Orveda products are of natural origin, otherwise sourced via green scientific formulas.

What that means is no nasties, like mineral oil or artificial colours, nor alcohol and parabens. In addition to this, Orveda’s chic packaging stunningly uses less than 5% plastic. Needless to say, that’s something that other brands should definitely be aspiring towards.

The products themselves are gorgeous. Framed by bio-fermented marine enzymes, which originate from volcanic waters off the Californian coast, and bio-fermented Kombucha black tea, the range offers an extensive number of face creams, cleansers and masques.

The Rich Brew Botanical Cream is a stunning emulsion that results in soft, glowy skin through an optimum base of hyaluronic acid. The cream’s texture, all pillowy and smooth, is an utter joy to use and leaves a protective barrier on the skin – absolutely ideal for winter weather.

Another perfect product for this time of year is the brand’s new Respure Beauty Shield Face Mist. Housed in an elegant, handbag-friendly bottle, the fine spray offers immediate respite whilst you’re on the move, leaving your skin refreshed, moisturised and protected from city pollution.

Other highlights include The Healing Sap, a tonic-like serum that provides intensive hydration, plus the Ironing Effect Masque – a product that quite literally creates an ironed-out skin texture.

Given the marked elegance of these products, it’s no surprise that Orveda spent three years developing their textures – compared to the six months most cosmetic companies typically take to create their goods, from start to finish.

It’s yet another sign of how seriously Orveda takes product development and the proof is certainly in the end product.

As well as skincare, Orveda offers a beautiful range of candles, which, in keeping with the brand’s ethos, are 100% recyclable and hand-poured.

With sweet and woody notes from petitgrain bigarade and green cardamom, they would make for a delightful addition in any household.

Add to that the new limited-edition Anti-Fatigue Recovery Kit, a week’s worth of on-the-go skincare, and you’ll be glowing wherever you end up over the Christmas and New Year break.
