IN search for new perspectives and an underlying sense of clarity, Jil Sander presents their Men’s Resort 2023 Collection.
By following motifs of relaxation and peace through dreamy colour palettes, like that of an ocean or the summer sky, and tropical prints of palm trees, the collection presents a feeling of jetting away and soaking up the pleasure of a holiday. Promoting a sense of freedom and crossing new territories, Lucie, and Luke Meier work to inspire an audience to seek new and exciting opportunities around the globe through a 36-piece collection.
In a quest to combine womenswear and menswear, the pair have challenged stereotypes by deconstructing a typical male silhouette, like the suit, and replacing it with slim, round neck tank tops, shirt-jackets, trenches, and overcoats. Furthermore, kilts, long skirts, high-waisted pleated trousers, and shorts have been featured, to help defy the norm.
An essence of glamour can be spotted through iridescent sequin tops and silver feather brooches, which perfectly compliment the other stories the collection provides like utilitarian trends and the certain masculine grit. Ambiguity is key in this collection as a carefree and rule-breaking energy is revealed through the continuing theme of washing up feminine and masculine cuts, shapes, and purposes.
Continuing to elevate the Jil Sander’s symbol of modernity and sophistication, the collection carries innovative and traditional techniques that have been expertly shown through designs of Japanese wool trench coats, leather T-shirts, cashmere filled with floral fil-coupé jacquards and silk, to name a few. Matched perfectly with accessories such as square tote bags, a lunchbox, and cross body bags, agile and strong construction elements are mixed to again, create that gender fluidity.
The shoes are a combination of light and elegant, like the vulcanized Jil Sander sneaker in leather and canvas, which are contrasted with heavy and squared looks like the collection’s iconic sandals, creepers, and boots, constructed by layering leather sheets.
The collections overall colour palette presents a shift through darkness and light by featuring cream and neutral tones, pastel pinks, yellows, and greens, and grey, indigo, and silver. The shining, reflective part of the series is captured through oneiric hues of sequins and prints.
