LFW AW16: Eudon Choi

Eudon Choi took an abstract approach to AW16 in London this week, asserting his latest collection in a hard and soft juxtaposition that proved captivating. Making the Choi woman stand out in his very own routinely refined manner, the designer deliver sharp, graphic lines over soft rippling fabrics in sugary muted pastels, which stood out alongside dark and matured tones of navy and bruised plum.

Pattern was also key to Eudon’s abstract expression this time round, something which saw him look to abstract artists Saloua Raounda Choucair and Helen Frankenthaler to influence the draped block prints of practically unbridled panel structure. The shoes that planted Choi’s latest vision to the ground were also quite the talking point.

Created in collaboration with footwear designer Ganor Dominic, they incorporated a flurry of various animal pelts and Ganor Dominic’s sculptural restrained chic style to maximum effect. It seems that Eudon, along with Glass, is just as much a fan of the emergent footwear brand set to pave the way in London, creating shoes perfectly in harmony with his vision.

The title of the show, Sunwise Turn, meaning “prosperous course” in Celtic tradition when one turns from east to west in the direction of the sun was profound for Choi. His course as a designer this year was one of contrasting artistic sentiments to make the ultimate statement.

The final outcome, the impactful garments themselves, went from strength to strength throughout, much like the career of the young designer, still bringing something of real value to the British Fashion Industry after many seasons gaining the respect he deserves.
