Even though knitwear is usually associated with autumn and winter seasons, one can also enjoy spring and summer as well in cosy-yet-light knits according to John Smedley, a knitwear brand with over 230 years of tradition. The delicate thin knitwear that was showcased at Smedley’s SS16 presentation was predominantly made of 100 per cent cotton and fibre mixtures of soft cashmere, silk and merino.
The collection, titled Spectrum, showed single-coloured looks from white and cream to light blue and dark purple worn by nine models statically standing in black brogues with black socks on pedestals in a row like graceful Ancient Greek Classical sculptures as their make up was left natural and hair were tied in a simple low ponytail.
The minimal elegant garments were beautiful in the textures pleasing to the touch and their intricate details of draping and wrapping on dresses worn over loose wide floor-sweeping trousers or sweaters styled over long skirts. The silhouette was very relaxed as the pieces were a bit oversized to let the skin breathe in the summer temperatures.
