For AW16, Alessandra Facchinetti continued with the theme of the cool girl that she set last season for Tod’s. Only this time, she’s not in a rock band anymore. Whatever she does, she does it well-dressed in luxurious leathers and sports- influenced 1970s silhouettes.
Trench coats with contrasting big fur collars, biker and aviator jackets, trousers, kilts and dresses – all of these were presented in the finest leathers – after all isn’t that the best of Italy? – with contrasting seams creating patterns.
Loose yet feminine jumpers with Tod’s iconic geometrical print were paired with kilts, while suits, worn with pussy bow blouses, dresses and kilted puffy jackets were covered in tartan and checkers, suggesting a Scottish influence.
Hoop earrings, gold chains with leather tassels, appearing throughout the collection, hung around the models’ necks, fox tails, leg warmers, a huge fur coat, beige tinted round sunglasses and wavy hair with a single braid confirmed the ‘70s inspiration.
The geometrical and tartan prints were also translated into handbags, this season celebrating the popular Wave and Double T bags, adorned with saddle stitching, patchwork, kilting, tassels and fur, as the models walked in ankle lace up boots on a high heel with red laces, moccasins with a double T buckle and the traditional Gommino with tassels or studs.
