A HEAVY focus on feminine tailored daywear echoed throughout Alberta Ferretti’s AW20 collection, showcased on the commencing day of Milan Fashion Week this season. True to her word, the collection explored the concept of femininity through typically masculine pieces, comprised of boxy trouser suits, meticulous detailing and subtle ‘80s references to channel attitude and mystique with a hint of gothic glamour.
Despite broadly favouring sartorial pieces composed of muted tones and innovative flair, the small inclusion of ethereal occasion dressing retained an element of quintessential Alberta Ferretti.
The show opened with an entirely leather ensemble, which featured an over-sized jacket tightly cinched at the waist with harem pants tucked into high-heeled slouchy boots. Powerful silhouettes were achieved with chunky gold accessories, clean-cut checkered coats and statement shoulders.
Plissé ruffles erupted in an explosive abundance, showcasing a candy-coloured palette of lilac, cornflower blue, fuchsia and scarlet red, adhering to the subtle references of the ‘80s while bestowing a whimsical energy across the array of looks.
An assortment of monochromatic outfits concluded the runway show, primarily composed of lavish dresses that exuded glossy sophistication. Adopting a captivatingly sultry edge, black silk adorned in lucent silver embroidery depicted the glittering of the moonlight, while other luxury components and fabrics included black tulle and sparkling metallics. Having juxtaposed robust refinement with timeless elegance, Ferretti certainly didn’t come to play.
