MFW AW21: Brunello Cucinelli

SUMPTUOUS knits in luxe fabrics took centre stage in Brunello Cucinelli’s AW21 collection – presented as part of Milan Fashion Week – which sought to redefine the rigid standards of formal wear.

Showcased via a video presentation produced in Solomeo, Italy, the collection, aptly titled The Touch of Knit, was a practical yet elegant 33-look line-up that fused the traditions of the house with cutting-edge innovation.

In a tranquil colour scheme of cream, beige, golden-brown and soft grey, women donned French terry blazers and down-jackets layered with matching knitted sets crafted from precious cashmere, wool, silk, alpaca and mohair that showcased flawless craftsmanship.

Denim was plentiful and came in various styles from a ‘70s inspired boot cut to the curved and barrel shapes of the 80s and the straight cut high-waist silhouette of the 1990s – each look finished with a boot, trainer or formal shoe for a charming, refined look.

Skirts with soft volumes and pleats in flannel, organza or tulle also played a key role, with midi and pencil cuts showcasing gorgeous mohair embroidery inspired by English-style striped saddle blankets.

Simple with impeccable construction, these clothes spoke of a quiet revolution, giving new life to daywear that offers all the benefits of comfort without sacrificing any of the luxury.
