MFW AW22: Dsquared2

AFTER years of being tethered to our homes due to strict travel restrictions, Dsquared2 is more than ready to get on the road again.

Their AW22 collection is inspired by bohemian travellers who crave adventure. The garments are infused with a deep sense of wanderlust for far-away places both seen and unseen.

The lineup is eclectic and reminiscent of the fashion that once ruled Haight Ashbury. Strands of the models’ hair have been woven and braided with thread or tucked into knit tassel beanies. The tassel theme continues as the detail adorns various scarves and necklaces layered around models’ necks.

Dsquared say, “The adornments make gentle sounds as Dsquared2’s travellers venture out into the world on a mission to connect it together with peace and love.”

Patterns are a-plenty in the collection – with a variety of plaid, paisley and geometrical prints covering garments. One look features a burnt orange and teal paisley midi dress underneath an exaggeratedly cropped brunt orange rain jacket.

Sheer, star and stripped printed sleeves peek out from the jacket’s sleeves. A pair of wide-leg, grey corduroy trousers are worn for added warmth under the dress.

The look is completed with a pair of black cowhide clogs. As an alternative to the clogs, other outfits are finished off with a range of boots. From suede fringe pairs to padded, water-resistant shell boots – there is a shoe for every terrain.

“These voyagers wear layers that offer protection, comfort, and reveal memories of their travels—like souvenirs collaged together,” asserts Dsquared2. Tartan wool blankets are worn like capes down the runway – layered over a Mexican style poncho over a plaid flannel.

Faux-fur white trousers and puffy snow boots complete the outfit. One model sports a chocolate leather pencil skirt over a pair of chocolate leather trousers. The lineup has been styled in a way that feels nostalgic yet foreign, as if the pieces were accumulated at roadside markets and back street vintage stories.

The Dsquard2 collection is a nod to the simple idea that clothes are meant to be worn and lived in – they bear the image of where we have been and where we are going. Clothing tells stories, and these garments tell tales of wonderous adventures in far-away lands.
