In true Vivienne Westwood fashion, the SS15 show in Milan was explosion of punk nonconformity. She presented us with exaggerated suits, reminiscent of a mad hatter tea party with enlarged top hats, striking patterns and bold prints. The classic orb emblem was embroidered on to jumpers marking the collection as yet another remarkable Westwood show. No stranger to the strange – Westwood feminised the collection by using both baggy and tight-fitted clothing to convey a sexualised theme that unified the looks.
Her wacky yet wonderful compilation mixed casual and formal wear, showcasing sports luxe juxtaposed against tailored suits. With floral designs and clashing colour the garments displayed an ‘80s style Spring/Summer. Westwood created beachwear, designing Speedos which were even worn over outfits and dressed with bow ties and neckerchiefs. Swimwear was also combined with thin knitted sleeveless jumpers and vest tops befitting the rave culture.
It wouldn’t be a Vivienne Westwood show without a political message splashed across the collection, for Milan SS15, the iconic designer labelled her work as “Moral Outrage” and sketched the title across various pieces in the collection. With the models donning matching snouts it was an artistic rebellion against pig farming in the UK, a sensitive subject for Westwood who is disgusted by the treatment of the animals in her own country.
The collection showcased everything we know and love about Vivienne Westwood, her rebellious youthful attitude, her political activism and most importantly, her artistic take on fashion.
