PFW AW14: Sacai

Sacai’s collection for AW14 was an asymmetric but dazzling display of sheer craftsmanship. Designer Chistose Abe mixed polished looks with immaculately disheveled ones in contrasting fabrics for an artful display. This, of course, was Abe’s intention, as she is well known for her cool and innovative pieces for Japanese label Sacai.

Looks included a two-piece suit where the top was a hybrid of a vest and a jacket with double layered material on one side and open zipper on the other. There also were formations of a cape-jacket and half-pleated skirts in a mix of chiffon and wool.

For this collection, Abe worked with silks, knitwear, chiffon, wool and leather to create a mayhem of mix and match. The colour palette was monochrome, burnt orange, red and blue with the exception shot of pink on one of the outfits.

Looks also featured a layering of outerwear such as a tweed orange trench paired with a red leather vest with a brown fur over-sized collar. Renaissance tribal prints on chiffon flowed through thick knitted tops as well. Models wore orange copper eyeshadow with nude lips and held a stern look on their face through the show. Abe continues to create extraordinary fashion in a very natural way, describing her approach as, “It’s about following your instincts.”
