Channelling functionality, Celine’s SS15 at Paris Fashion week revisited the heyday of the ‘70s into her collection and – for the first time ever – a heavy dose of reddish and yellowish florals, diverging from the usual pared-down elegant austerity of the line.
Taking as inspiration “woman’s work”, Phoebe Philo offered a quietly empowering collection. Her minimal shapes prevailed but were disrupted by the prints throughout; black and olive green woolen coats paired with gold string belts, cropped flares and fringes and deconstructed tunics gave a feeling of carefree anarchy. High-waisted trousers, blazers and jumpsuits in cream and blue indicated the powerful-masculine elements within a woman.
Parts of the body were provocatively exposed through erotic cut-outs while skinny knitted dresses and skirts with soft flat ballerinas, mid-height leather shoes, leather clutches and porcelain necklaces added a playful tone.
Multi-dimensional looks and a plethora of emotions expressed through gentle finishes and the surprising bloom of florals signified the brand’s new departure emerging through bright colours, floral-flamengo motifs and enigmatic garments.
