PFW SS15: Elie Saab

Saab did not hold back as he opened the show with dramatic gowns that dominated the runway. In a duel of fire and water, sheer fabric mixed aquatic blue against burnt orange; representing an alliance of the elements. Spotlights ignited the colours, illuminating the stone washed effect and giving an ablaze appearance.

The bold colours were juxtaposed against harsh monochromatic lines, breaking up the pattern and a emphasising the fit and cut of the garments. Saab kept to a basic colour palette, choosing spectrums of blue and orange against neutral shades. There were rare sightings of ombre design; however in true Saab style he used block colouring to convey a classic edge.

His use of sheer panels and lace created a distressed appearance that was then glamorised with sequins. Cut out and tied up, he knotted fabric on itself to form a unique design that brought attention to plainer dresses. Updating traditional ball gowns into extravagant, modern dresses, Saab chose multi-length skirts that were short at the front and long at the back. With thigh splits and added sashes, the collection took a sophisticated turn to old school Hollywood.

Exuding femininity, Saab used tailoring to perfect a womanly silhouette. Fitted fabric and skinny belts emphasised waists, whilst heavy material draped around the hips, adding flare and movement. Low cut v necks contrasted against long lengths, and high neck gowns were challenged with asymmetrical skirts.

Filled with elegance and poise, his focus on natural elements combined with dazzling design, made for an alluring collection that entranced the audience.
