PFWM AW20: Dior

FIT for French royalty, the Dior show for PFWM opened with an array of duck egg blue silk cloaks – and the collection only got more opulent from there, in a beautiful homage to highly influential stylist Judy Blame who died in 2018.

Impeccably-tailored outwear, overlaid with touches of interlaced textures and accessorised with delicate, bejewelled debutante gloves, showed an attention to detail, at both the macro and micro levels. The accessories hark directly to Blame’s influence, through his personal connection to and friendship with Kim Jones, the artistic director of menswear at Dior.

Further outwear looks involved layers of paisley-patterned silks, and showed a real commitment to the palette of soothing, interconnected blues. Delicate touches of jewellery – necklaces, earrings and brooches – all balanced the larger silhouettes that the coats and jackets provided.

The neutral palette is a contrast to other, louder shows, and the quiet elegance of Dior feels welcome. Berets and belted bags broke up the streamlined looks, while still holding their own as standalone pieces.

Dior offers a simple, sweetly-styled collection for PFWM that mixes opulence and elegances and produces a calming, pleasing palette that will no doubt inspire many looks this winter.
