Tamara Mellon releases her ’60s-inspired collection for AW24

AN ODE to the ‘60s, for the Tamara Mellon AW24 collection, the revered British designer has taken inspiration from the most fashionable figures of the Swinging Sixties – think the enduring allure of Anouk Aimée, Peggy Moffitt, Ann Bancroft, Gena Rowland, and of course, the classic pin-up, Catherine Deneuve.

The line brings a new lease of life to cute kitten heels, retro slingbacks, and wedges, updating these beloved silhouettes with exotic textures and vibrant colours, and as expected, there’s a dose of sass.

A brand that’s known and loved for its sexy take on footwear, Tamara says, “The Tamara Mellon woman is strong, free and fearless. She goes from high stilettos and 50 heel boots, to ballet flats and platform sandals with ease and pleasure.

She comes close to danger, loves the power of cars, the works of Josef Alber, John McCracken, her body and her freedom. These women evoke a sense of femininity, freedom, and elegance. It is my hope that this collection will empower the woman who wears it to exude the same allure.”

Set against a sleek urban and stylish backdrop, the campaign reflects the signature ambiguity of the TM wearer – she’s sexy, she’s mysterious, and she’s oh-so-confident. Continuing this theme, the textures and shapes are inspired by John McCracken’s sculptures and translate into black high-shine pieces that are part racy, part retro.

The collection also features iridescent textures and colour combinations drawn from Josef Albers’ paintings to add a creative depth to the designs.

Each element in the campaign and collection celebrates the house’s DNA, and as the brand says, it’s a tribute to the strong, modern woman who embody elegance with an edge.
