The earth staked it’s claim on Etro’s AW15 offering, with Kean Etro building up an ethnic-chic repertoire in the space of 56 looks. Rendering this theme in the most sumptuous cuts of velvet, suede and grain corduroy the brand’s family protégé recalled the “grandeur of Palazzo Fortuny in Venice” in his new designs, objecting to any trace of cold tones to result in a picturesque selection of fine textiles.
Anchoring each look in the now however, the designer was cautious that any retro affectations remained subtle and kept form relatively conservative. Naturally being Etro, the same can’t be said for the ornate print and pattern combos, which lavished suits in a number of alternating paisley skins. Imprinting other pieces with flecks of gold dust was a novel approach and in a situation that calls for it, these items could make for a fairly stylish outfit, in the right hands that is.
Highlights that shined a little brighter however included the doubling up of buff pony-skin for a suit composed entirely of the stuff. It’s simple yet highly effective craftsmanship like this that speaks the loudest to Glass, because a man who wants to exert savvy style shouldn’t have to wear too much commotion on his sleeve. Top marks all round to Etro for not being shy about anything though.
