Paris Menswear SS16: Sacai

Sacai’s Chitose Abe pulled out all of the stops in Paris this season for menswear SS16 by concocting a bricolage mish-mash of the flurry of textiles that the brand incorporates into their unmistakable brand identity.

The motley crew of pieces assembled, despite more ambiguous first impressions, were actually shaped by club culture and in particular, New York’s legendary Paradise Garage. Beyond the club’s distinctive logo popping up blatantly on a few t-shirts and the festive gingham leis swung around necks, the gritty aspects of the jumbled up clothing evoked the steamy, and considerably more seedy, streets of New York circa 1984 during the clubs heyday.

Tapping into this rich and visually explosive culture was an interesting turn for Sacai this season and once spectators were able to smoke out this engaging theme, the entire collection gained a hell of a lot of body. Yet again, Sacai have curated a knockout selection of statement pieces for the everyday to the every night, targeted at those who see the world as their catwalk.
