LFW SS16: Jasper Conran

Jasper Conran’s close ties to the Conran design dynasty was as enunciated as ever this season, with a SS16 collection that had a very clear voice.

Fresh, revitalising and earthy, Conran went evergreen and did a double, triple and even quadruple take on jade, avocado and emerald hues, and leafy prints. Stemming from the best-of-British designer’s reliance upon nature as a divine source of inspiration,  each look had a calmness that extended beyond the neat lines, but actually possessed a kind of zen-like enchantment.

Drawing on the unmistakable essence of nature as harmless fashion design trope was plainly safe, but Conran has been working on this for so long that he always wins out. So much so that by the end there was more than a couple of handfuls of looks that stood out amongst his output over the past few seasons, for instance, the embellished gowns that closed the show. The more dwelt-on pieces like this had green goddess wrapped in sequinned sea-weed wrap written all over them, à la Aqua Marina from Gerry Anderson’s Stingray literally all over.
