IN CASE you hadn’t noticed, luxury car manufactures are having quite the impact on the mens fragrance market. Following on from Bentley’s Infinite Rush and Jaguar’s Pace, the latest offering to land in the Glass office is Ferrari’s Man in Red. The Italian supercar brand is synonymous with power, luxury and, of course, the colour red.
Rosso Corsa Red, to be exact. The same ubiquitous shade of red Ferrari invented for its cars adorns Man in Red’s double-lacquered bottle. Never one to go with the flow, Ferrari chose to reject the current trend of curved bottle for mens cologne. A robust, squared-off rectangle of rouge capped off with a silver band instantly sets the tone. It’s imposing, if a bottle of cologne can be such a thing.
The scent, an ambery fougère, is surprisingly subtle, yet unmistakably masculine – the sort of testosterone-fuelled fragrance paired perfectly with a roaring gasoline machine. And yet, with sweet red apple, golden plum and lavandin, a lingering fruity freshness emerges from the top notes.
Its a contrasting mix that produces a satisfying payoff. Ideal for the day as a casual staple, this is an on-brand product that knows not only what their customer wants, but how to cater to them.
